About

Jake Gale is a self-taught photographer and printer working in contemporary and historical analog processes. Interested in image making from a young age, he recommitted himself to film photography during the COVID-19 pandemic and today shoots primarily in large format and almost exclusively in black and white, developing and printing images in his home studio in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Jake's practice explores family, legacy, nature, the built environment, impermanence, and justice. When work and family life permit, he can be found shouldering his 8x10 field camera and wandering the streets of the Twin Cities or the north country's open spaces.
